Configuring Journaling Printouts

Scenario: You want to configure the management platform to automatically print out a record when specified alarms, operator/system actions, or field conditions occur.

Prerequisites:

  • System Manager is in Engineering mode.
  • System Browser is in Management View.
  • In System Browser, the Manual Navigation check box is selected.

 

Steps:

1 – Map a Journaling Printer to a Template
  • At least one server printer is configured as a journaling printer at Management Station > Management System > Servers > Main Server.
  1. Select Project > System Settings > Journaling.
  • The Journaling Printers tab displays.
  1. Select an existing entry in the list, or click Add to insert a new one.
  1. Select a printer from the Printer drop-down list.
    NOTE: Only server printers configured as journaling printers display in this list.
  1. (Optional) From the Template drop-down list, select a template.
    NOTE: If no template is specified (by selecting None) in the Template drop-down list, the Default Template is used for printing.
  1. Click Save .
  • The template is mapped to the journaling printer.

 

2 – Create a New Journaling Definition

You can select an existing journaling definition to modify, or begin configuring a new one from scratch.

  1. Select Project > System Settings > Journaling.
  1. In the Journaling Printers tab, click New Journaling Definition .
  1. In the New Object dialog box, enter a name and description.
  1. Click OK.
  • The new journaling definition is added to System Browser.

 

3 – Assign a Journaling Printer to a Journaling Definition

You can assign only those journaling printers that are mapped to a template.

  1. Select Project > System Settings > Journaling > [journaling definition].
  1. In the Journaling Configurator tab, open the General Settings expander.
  1. From the Printer drop-down list, select a journaling printer.

 

4 – Configure the Events Filter of the Journaling Definition
  1. In the Journaling Configurator tab, open the Filters expander.
  1. In the Events expander, you can set the types of alarms that will be printed:
  1. Click New to create a new row with all the fields set to All. This means all types of events originating from all system objects will be printed.
  1. To restrict the objects whose events are printed, drag a Scope from Project > System Settings > Scopes into the Scope field.
  1. To restrict what events are printed based on Category, Type/Subtype, Discipline/Subdiscipline use the drop-down lists and the = or ≠ operators.
    NOTE: An event will be printed if it matches all the criteria in a row.
  1. Repeat the above steps to add additional rows.

 

5 – Configure the Actions Filter of the Journaling Definition
  1. In the Filters expander, open the Actions expander to set what operator/system actions will be printed out.
  1. Click New to create a new row with all the fields set to All. This means all types of actions will be printed out.
  1. Use the Actions drop-down list to select the specific actions you want to print out.
  1. To restrict the objects whose actions are printed, drag a scope defintion from Project > System Settings > Scopes into the Scope field.
  1. To further restrict what actions are printed out based on Type/Subtype, Discipline/Subdiscipline, use the drop-down lists and the = or ≠ operators.
    NOTE: An action will be printed if it matches all the criteria in a row.
  1. Repeat the above steps to add other rows.

 

6 – Configure the Values and States Filter of the Journaling Definition
  • For printing, the COVs of a property of an Object Model, the VL flag for that property in the Object Configurator tab must be checked. For more information on how to set the VL flag of the property, see Logging Data Values.
  1. In the Values and States expander, you can set what changes of value (COV) or changes of state (COS) of field objects will be printed.
  1. Click New to create a new row with all the fields initially set to All.
  1. Specify what set of objects you want to monitor for changes in value or state: drag a Scope from Project > System Settings > Scopes > [scope] into the Scope field.
  1. Select what Property of the specified object model you want to monitor for changes in value or state.
  1. To further restrict what changes in value or state are printed based on Type/Subtype, Discipline/Subdiscipline, use the drop-down lists and the = or ≠ operators.
    NOTE: A COV or COS will be printed if it matches all the criteria in a row.
  1. Repeat the above steps to add other rows.

 

7 – Save the Journaling Definition
  1. In the Journaling tab, click Save or Save As.
  1. (Only for Save As) In the Save Object As dialog box:
    a. Select Journaling.
    b. Enter a name and description.
    c. Click OK.
  • The journaling printout will include items that match the configured Events, Actions, or Values and States filters.
